What Your Insurance Agent May Not Tell You    >back to top

Is your insurance agent telling you that you only need an appraisal done on an item worth more than $5,000?

What about that antique crystal lamp that aunt Josephine gave you worth $600, or that $1200 golf set that was bought last spring? Oh yes, don’t forget the $3,000 painting that you purchased at the Santa Fe Art festival.  Chances are that you were not told that these items are Not protected.  If there is a claim to be filed for fire, theft, or  other damages, the burden of proof will be on you to prove the value. Did you know that the total value of items worth less than $5,000 each could easily exceed an item worth more than $5,000.

Furthermore, did you know that home contents insurance coverage does not mean you will receive accurate replacement coverage for your items? Most insurance companies will give you a value without an independent verification from a professional appraiser. This tactic is more frequent since insurance companies suffered financial losses after 9/11 and Katrina.

Clients that use our  appraisal services know that having adequate home contents insurance coverage ROCKS!!!  Isn't this the reason to have your items appraised? Let us provide you with a formal appraisal document with verification to take to your insurance company.  Your items do not need to be an antique, but how would you know?
