What's in The Attic?    >back to top

There may be treasures waiting in your attic or basement to be found.  Go ahead, check it out!!!  Here are a few questions to ask when  trying to identify those antique treasures:

   1.  Is the item 50 years or older?  (AGE)

   2.  Is the item one of a kind? Only a few made?

   3.  Does the item have unique craftmanship, design, and construction?

    4. Is there a sheen to the surface of the item that indicates normal use? Examples such as the legs, arms, or seats of a chairs or the faded top of a cookie jar or biscuit jar.

   5. Can the item be returned to its original state with the least amount   of work? Remember that antiques are seldom in perfect condition.

   6.  Does the item have a deep rich color or faded color? Items that are   exposed to light or sun will be lighter in color than unexposed areas.  Keep in mind that some American-made furniture was painted to cover the wood.

    7.  Does the item have a family history or was it owned by someone  famous?
